ROCKET SINGH
salesman of the year
Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) is the new sales trainee on the block and is already called 'a zero' by his profit-obsessed boss. Consequently his colleagues start showing disrespect by aiming paper rockets his way; an act he pays tribute to when he decides to strike on his own. Hence the name of his company- Rocket Sales Corp. He gets other dissatisfied employees to join him and then starts an amusingly immoral game where Rocket Sale Corp feed their clients two defunct numbers from their present organisation i.e. AYS Computers
What doesn't work is the preachy prattle that goes on throughout the film. Yes, it’s refreshing that someone should encourage sales without having to bribe; it's also super for a company to concentrate equally on after-sales service rather than just profits.
But doing all this, sitting in your present company, earning your salary from that company, and knowing your new enterprise will be your present employer's competition is tad uncool. It might have been ok, even mildly amusing, had the film shown our sales trainee protagonist to be the ambitious street-smart sort who's getting back at his unappreciative boss.
Ranbir Kapoor is wonderfully earnest, and this truly has been his year exploiting the entire range of his talent. What also perks up Rocket Singh is the supporting cast — actors playing Harpreet’s hyper greedy MD and the sales head who springs a nice surprise are superb,
Gauhar Khan is fabulous as the fast-talking receptionist angling for a bigger post. Others in the fraternity include the porn-addicted service manager and the peon who hates being called `cup-plate’.
Shazahn Padamsee plays Harpreet’s love interest and sleepwalks through her role. Hers is an interesting face but the acting is deadpan. Prem Chopra playing Ranbir’s grandfather who is always confused by the "stress in today’s jobs" is charmingly old-worldly.
One would imagine the film to appeal that much more to those already in the sales and marketing professions for easy idenitifiability to impossible sales targets, tricks around the job, and so on. For others, it’s at best, a day in the life of a salesman --- mildly amusing, but a trying watch for two hours plus.
After Ab Tak Chhappan and Chak De India, this is director Shimit Amin’s weakest film thus far. But still, for Ranbir’s heartfelt performance as the salesman who wants to be a "jungle mein Mahatma", the inspiring dialogues and fab supporting cast, Rocket Singh might just be worth your time this weekend.

RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI
The latest release of Neha Dhupia is Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, a comedy
film based on one night stand.Neha's character is a flirtatious one who does not mind smoking and drinking. Neha could easily relate to Sophia, because she too does not have pretensions in life.
Neha who seems very happy with her film and role says “I would say that ‘Raat Gayi Baat Gayi’, which is a different comedy, is my best film till date as an actress. It was a great opportunity for me to let my work speak for itself. Though I know for a fact that I am under rated as an actress, I am happy because even if I give just an average performance, people are happy because they did not expect it from me.
The movie is about three guys, their wives, one missing mobile number and gorgeous Sophia played by Neha, who seems to be rushing behind all the wrong things in her life and of course the plot revolves around one night stands and hangovers.
